Welcome To First Evangelical Free Church of Ames

Welcome Team

When someone walks into our church for the first time, it is our hope that they have a welcoming experience. As they drive onto our grounds, are greeted at the door, ushered into the sanctuary, and given personal help at our Information Center, we hope we create a place where people experience a friendly face, and get the information they need to make their worshiping experience meaningful.

If you would enjoy being part of the Welcome Team at First Free you are invited to contact the following team leaders for more information.

Greeter

Be that smile and first impression for people as they arrive at First Free. Greeters experience the joy of saying hello to many visitors as well as regular attenders. The commitment is 30 minutes, one service per month. Greeters are at the front entrance 20 minutes prior the start of the service and greet until 10 minutes after the service begins or until most worshippers have arrived. For more information, or to test drive greeting contact us and let us know of your interest.

First Impressions Team

Do you like to meet new people and help to make them feel at home?  Our First Impressions Team members seek to create a warm welcome for first time guests.  Near the front door every Sunday morning, these volunteers do whatever it takes to make visitors feel like part of the First Free family.  A monthly schedule of volunteers staff the First Impressions ministry. If this sounds like your cup of tea, contact our servant team for more information.

Ushers

An usher’s goal is to make sure First Free worshippers have a meaningful experience. Our ushers work in teams of 6 or 8 and serve at the same worship hour for one month each quarter. During one worship service, sanctuary ushers greet, make bulletins available, assist in finding a seat, or other duties as needed. They often have the privilege to be the first to identify and assist guests and visitors. Ushers are needed at the 9:00 and 10:35 hours. Substitutes are also needed.

For more information, or to test drive being an usher, contact us to let us know of your interest.

Information Center

Join the friendly Information Center staff!  As an Information Center volunteer you will address logistical questions about the times of services, class information, restroom locations, etc. However, more important than the information that you distribute is the relationship and personal exchange that you have with the people who need your help. You don’t need to know all the answers, you just need to be friendly and able to take a message for the appropriate person to follow-up with. Our ministry commitment is from September to August, volunteering for one shift at the Information Center per month. A Sunday morning shift is 30 minutes, starting at 8:45, 10:15, or 11:45. To shadow a current volunteer, or learn more contact our servant team.

Parking Attendant

Can you spare an hour per Sunday for a month to make a great first impression? It’s the only outdoor volunteer opportunity at First Free that lets you soak up the sun, and use a walkie–talkie! We are looking for friendly people to help our visitors find a parking space. Our attendants serve September through May. We work in teams of five, so ask a friend or two to partner with you.
